Should I PPF the whole car or just the front on a new performance BMW or AMG?

Most daily drivers compromise with front-end and high-impact PPF (bumper, bonnet, mirrors, sills) because full-body coverage works well but is significantly more expensive.

For most owners of new performance BMWs and AMGs, front-end PPF is the practical choice. Full-body coverage offers comprehensive protection but comes with a price tag that often exceeds the cost of the protection most owners actually need. The reality is that certain areas of your car bear the overwhelming majority of damage from daily driving, while other panels rarely see any wear.

High-impact zones that matter most:

  • Front bumper and lower valence
  • Bonnet, especially the leading edge
  • Front guards and door edges where shopping trolleys and other cars make contact
  • Mirrors and mirror caps
  • Door handle cups and door edges
  • Boot lid lower section on sedans

These areas take virtually all the stone chips, parking dings and road debris that damage your paint. The sides, rear doors, roof and rear bumper are rarely impacted in normal driving.

When full-body makes sense:

  • Show cars or garage queens that will be displayed at events
  • Track cars that see constant high-speed debris
  • Owners who plan to keep the car for many years and want to preserve every panel
  • Cars in premium colours where repaint matching is a concern

The cost reality:

Front-end PPF typically costs 30 to 40 per cent of full-body coverage. That is a significant saving for protection that addresses 90 per cent of real-world damage. Most owners find this the right balance between protection and budget.
